300 Exhibition Chapter II

A collaboration between the Sabah Art Gallery and 30 talented local artists in 3 months long exhibition.

With the theme of 'Bawah Bayu' or 'Below The Wind' this exhibition showcasing 300 artpieces, by 30 artists for RM300 each.

Latana who is part Kadazan, is an American based in United States and Singapore. Her interesting and engaging collection of works ranging from photographs to sculptures encourages us to explore new ways of seeing and will surely be an inspiration to visitors to the Gallery as well as our local artists. Her works has been exhibited in various exhibitions in Paris, Zurich, Geneva, Washington, California, Rome, Tahiti and recently at the Sabah Museum. Her works also include several publications which are ‘Barely Exposed’ in 2011, ‘The Pukhtar Monastery’ in 2005 and ‘Fragments, The Abandoned Villa Series’ in 1994.

The Sabah Art Gallery hope that this exhibition would give more encouragement and to develop artistic creativity as well as appreciation of art amongst our local art followers particularly learning from Latana’s experiences and her works in producing good quality art pieces.

The UK-born Rimmer who moved to Sabah in 1949, passed on 31st May 2017. She was the first to receive the Sabah Cultural Icon award by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah.

The launch of the four-month long exhibition was held in conjunction of Rimmer’s birthday today, where she would have turned 100 years old.

About 200 artworks ranging from sketches, pastel, Chinese ink and oil paint by Tina Rimmer exhibited in this special exhibition

Exposure of women creative works to the public is necessary to uncover and introduce the uniqueness of their works. This exhibition is aimed at encouraging women artist to be more active. Their involvement in this activity could lead to the development of a special creative movement and style in the country.

The Dolls of Japan

This exhibition introduces Japan’s representative dolls, including Hina ningyo (Girls’ Festival dolls) and Gogatsu ningyo (Boys’ Day dolls), which have their origins in ancient customs; dolls connected to traditional performing arts line noh, bunraku and kabuki; regional dolls from throughout the country and creative dolls produced contemporary crafts-people.

AMRI GINANG Visual Journey

Amri Ginang a international professional photographer from Semporna, Sabah is based in Kuala Lumpur. Started professionally as in-house commercial photographer in Stockholm 1985-96 shooting H&M, Ahlens, Bredenberg, Brindfors and ad agencies like Brindfors, Ted Bates, Jack Wahl, etc. Now based in KL as freelancer shooting advertising, commissioned portraits and fine arts. His early images were characterized by a preference for Black and White, which continues to comprise 50% of his work today. Clientlist includes- PETRONAS, DRAFT FCB, CELCOM, TOURISM MALAYSIA, DENTSU, LEO BURNETT, PNB, UNIVERSAL MUSIC MALAYSIA, UNILEVER ASIA, EUROCARS, ISETAN, AMARI HOTELS THAILAND, INFORMATION MINISTRY MALAYSIA, CONDE NAST AUSTRALIA, TOURISM AUTHORITY OF THAILAND, SONY MUSIC MALAYSIA, JW THOMPSON MALAYSIA, LOWE LINTAS INDONESIA, MCCANN SINGAPORE, NEXT SINGAPORE, SABAH TOURISM, CROWN PLAZA HOTELS ASIA PACIFIC, ETC.

The Sabah Art Gallery is pleased to showcase the Visual Journey Solo Exhibition by Amri Ginang from the 28th February - 30th April 2017 ay the Sabah Art Gallery. Showcasing 100 images by Amri together with the launching of his book ' REDISCOVERING SABAH'.

This is an annual show introducing fresh new works by new comers to the gallery with the objective of encouraging and promoting more young talents to be actively involved in the creation and appreciation of the visual arts in the state. The exhibition is open to Sabahan artists or artists who are currently residing in Sabah.

This year, it’s our pleasure to exhibit 97 pieces from 37 new and young talents with interesting and various approaches and mediums at Galeri Umum in Sabah Art Gallery.
